Hello! My name is Loren. I am a Professional Counselor Associate. I am a white, cis, queer, fat, mostly able bodied woman. Counseling is my second career. My first being in healthcare. I have worked in a hospital since 2010, the last years of my career working in labor and delivery. I have my Masters in Counseling from Portland State University.
My identities, privileges I hold, and my experiences affect how I move through the world, shape my cognitions and biases, and inform my practice as a therapist. I believe it is my responsibility to maintain cultural humility and do my own work to make sure our time together is focused on you.Â
My goal when working with my clients is to meet people where they are at to create a warm, open, and flexible environment for exploration and change. My style of therapy is eclectic, primarily person centered, humanistic, and somatic, rooted in feminist and social justice theories. Most paths in therapy are not clear and straight forward. I believe you are the expert of your life, and your experiences and identities are important to how you experience the world and what has brought you to therapy. I am here to hold space, and walk with you through the loops, turnbacks, and forks in the path.Â
Some fun things about me: I am originally from New Mexico. I just started my first DnD campaign. I love video games, sci fi, a warm beach, and my favorite podcast is The Bald and the Beautiful w/ Trixie and Katya. I have 2 cats, Bella and Soleil, and a little dog named Maggie.
